2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 Mustang
|
The 2005 Ford Mustang is the first, all new, Mustang in over 25 years! Ford started with a clean slate in it’s design. Retro styling coupled with many new technical innovations such as a 3 valve per cylinder, 300 horsepower V8 engine, three-link rear suspension with panhard bar, and a much stiffer unibody, make the 2005 Mustang a marked improvement over previous models.
Known within the Ford Motor Company as the S197 Mustang, the 2005 Mustang was initially offered as a 210 horsepower, V6 powered base Mustang and the 3 valve per cylinder V8 Mustang GT. Both were available in Coupe and Convertible body styles.
The 2006 Mustang offered very few changes from the 2005 Mustang model range….why mess with a sales hit! Many Mustang fans now speculate on future special edition Mustangs. Will there be a Boss Mustang? How about a Bullitt Mustang? Ford did tease the Mustang faithful with the Hertz Mustang GT-H, you could rent it, but you could not buy it. The Rent-A-Racer lives on!
The 2007 Mustang model range was expanded with the introduction of the Mustang Shelby GT500, the most powerful Mustang ever offered. 500 horsepower and 480 ft/lbs of torque from the supercharged, 5.4L engine. Also, the Shelby GT500 has some of the largest brakes ever offered on a Mustang, a six-speed manual transmission. This is a limited production model, this car has many Mustang enthusiasts paying way over sticker price just to own a piece of the Shelby Mustang legacy.
Also offered as part of the 2007 Mustang model range is the California Special. This is more of an appearance package for the 2007 Mustang GT offering a unique front fascia and chin spoiler, side scoops, unique tape stripe, 18 inch polished wheels, bright exhaust tips and interior upgrades.
Next up on the Special Edition Mustang offering is the Shelby GT. Mechanically, it will be very similar the the Hertz Shelby Mustang GT-H. The Shelby GT will have 325 horsepower and offer suspension upgrades from the Ford Racing Performance Parts catalog. It will also be available with a 5-speed manual transmission that the Shelby Mustang GT-H was not offering (they were only available with automatic transmissions…maybe Hertz remembered all the clutch replacements they had in the 60’s?).
